Four Armed Men Target French Family in €40,000 Crypto Home Invasion

Four armed men invaded a family home in Vendin-le-Vieil, northern France, during a coordinated attack that resulted in the theft of approximately €40,000 in cryptocurrency. According to reports from La Voix du Nord and Le Parisien, the attackers forced their way into the residence at 4 a.m., carrying weapons including a knife and an iron bar.

The family targeted consisted of a 40-year-old information technology specialist working in cryptocurrency, his 41-year-old partner, and their two children aged 12 and 8. The attackers bound the family members with black tape and separated the father from the rest of the household. During the two to three-hour ordeal, the father was beaten and threatened until he provided account credentials to transfer the digital assets. Firefighters discovered the family in shock at approximately 7 a.m., after which authorities determined the cryptocurrency had been transferred.

The attack involved a fifth person who remained on the phone with the four men inside the home throughout the invasion, reportedly speaking Arabic. This remote coordinator structure suggests an organized operation with a division between those conducting the physical invasion and someone directing the transfer in real time.

Broader Pattern in Europe

The incident is part of a documented trend of physical crypto attacks concentrated in France. According to independent trackers, France accounts for roughly 80 percent of documented physical crypto attacks across Europe. French police have recorded 135 crypto-linked incidents since 2023, with 77 cases reported in the first half of 2026 alone. Eighty-eight people, including minors, have been charged across active cases.

The French Anti-Cybercrime Office is investigating how the attackers identified the target family and tracing the stolen funds on the blockchain. Local judicial police handle the physical home invasion aspect of the case. Authorities have not disclosed the name of the stolen cryptocurrency asset, the destination wallet, or the identities of the suspects.
