Generali Group Expands Bitcoin Exposure Through Strategy Inc. Investment

Generali Group has expanded its Bitcoin exposure by acquiring 100,985 additional shares of Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR) through its investment arm, Generali Asset Management SPA SGR. The purchase, completed during the third quarter of 2026, brings the insurance group's total position to 237,930 shares valued at approximately $36.4 million.

Prior to this acquisition, Generali held 136,945 shares of Strategy. The investment now represents approximately 0.64% of Generali's overall portfolio and ranks 35th among its holdings, which collectively contain billions of dollars in assets under management.

Strategy's Role as a Bitcoin Vehicle

Strategy, which rebranded from MicroStrategy in 2025, has positioned itself as a Bitcoin accumulation company under Executive Chairman Michael Saylor. The company raises capital through equity offerings and convertible notes, then deploys proceeds to purchase Bitcoin for its balance sheet.

As of late October 2026, Strategy reportedly held over 848,000 Bitcoin with an average acquisition cost of approximately $75,400 to $75,500 per coin. The company has recently shifted from a strict "never sell" approach to employing selective monetization strategies while continuing to accumulate.

Institutional Demand for Bitcoin Proxies

Generali joins major asset managers in increasing Strategy holdings. Both Vanguard and BlackRock have expanded their positions in the company, with institutional ownership reaching approximately 59.84%.

For traditional financial institutions, Strategy shares offer a practical alternative to direct Bitcoin ownership. Regulatory requirements, custody complications, and compliance mandates often make holding cryptocurrency directly impractical. Strategy shares trade on a major US exchange and settle through regulated equity accounts, providing institutional investors a streamlined path to Bitcoin exposure.

However, Strategy shares do not function as a pure Bitcoin tracker. Stock performance reflects Bitcoin's price alongside the company's capital structure, debt obligations, and market assessments of its management strategy.
