A Solana-based meme coin linked to the individuals behind alleged Grand Theft Auto VI leaks has recorded significant market gains, climbing 35% in a single day and approaching a 40,000% increase over a seven-week period. The token, named CYBERLEEK, traded at approximately $0.028 as fresh gameplay footage and promotional activity emerged.
According to International Cyber Digest, the group behind CyberLeek burned nearly $1.5 million worth of developer tokens in an effort to distance the asset from traditional pump-and-dump schemes. The entity has reportedly collected between $40,000 and $70,000 in transaction fees and sought a 400 Monero donation, valued at roughly $165,000 at the time, to initiate contact for potential advertising agreements.
CyberLeek began posting GTA VI gameplay footage detailing the game's map and free-roam features, though the content was subsequently removed from X following a copyright strike issued by Rockstar Games. The group behind the token maintained that the cryptocurrency was launched to fund a undisclosed "secret project," claiming that revealing details prematurely would allow large corporations to build defenses. The creators asserted the funds are intended for infrastructure and security against corporate counterattacks, stating the venture is not a simple cash grab.
Promotional posts briefly pushed the token's market capitalization above $20 million. On a now-blocked website, the group stated its actions stemmed from opposition to anti-consumer practices within the gaming industry, such as digital pre-orders, paid single-player content, and restricted long-term offline access. However, the use of leaked material to promote a digital asset has drawn scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Take-Two Interactive continues its efforts to identify those responsible for the leaks, seeking information from Microsoft and Discord through court filings. Additional gameplay videos featuring supercar sequences, armed robberies, and a strip club scene were released on August 22. Take-Two noted in court documents that GTA VI audiovisual content, artwork, images, and dialogue had been distributed via Microsoft's GitHub and Discord. Microsoft stated it is cooperating with Take-Two and Rockstar to protect intellectual property, while Discord indicated it complies with valid DMCA subpoenas. Rockstar has not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the leaked footage.
