HEX Market Cap Drops on Founder's Detention
HEX lost $246 million in market capitalization this week after founder Richard Schueler was detained by Turkish authorities in Istanbul on October 14. The token's market cap fell from $561 million to $315 million.
During an early morning raid in the Beşiktaş district, police seized $7.15 million in cash, firearms, and ammunition from addresses associated with Schueler, according to Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek. Turkish authorities also impounded nine luxury vehicles registered to Schueler's wife and confiscated 28 watches, 300 bags, and 19 graphics cards.
An Interpol Red Notice was issued for Schueler two years ago over allegations of tax fraud and assault following a request from Finnish authorities. Turkish media have linked him to a $1 billion unregistered securities offering in the US, though that case was dismissed by a US judge in February 2025. HEX supporters note that authorities have not yet confirmed whether Schueler has been formally arrested or charged.
Quantum Computing Advances Trigger Starknet's Post-Quantum Vote
Recent developments in quantum computing have accelerated concerns about threats to elliptic curve cryptography. Google demonstrated a process called "magic state cultivation" on its Willow quantum processor that reduced errors 40-fold, achieving 99.99% accuracy for specialized quantum calculations.
Theta Labs posted three new quantum circuits that could reduce the number of qubits required to break elliptic curve cryptography by 28% from current estimates. These advances have prompted Starknet to vote on transforming from an Ethereum Layer 2 into a post-quantum Layer 1 blockchain.
StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson stated that Ethereum's post-quantum roadmap may be too slow to address the emerging threat. More than 99% of votes cast have favored the move to post-quantum security. Starknet's token declined nearly 50% this week following the announcement.
Stablecoin Market Adjustments and Regulatory Developments
Standard Chartered revised its stablecoin forecast, now expecting the market to reach $2 trillion by 2030, pushing back its previous projection by two years. The bank noted that transaction activity continues to grow despite the market's overall value plateauing at roughly $309 billion this year.

Ledger Introduces New Security Device
Ledger unveiled Atom, an $849 hardware wallet device designed with enhanced tamper protections following recent supply chain incidents. The device separates Android apps from wallet operations and claims to detect tampering even when powered off. Atom is scheduled for availability in summer 2027 and will support post-quantum cryptography, encrypted messaging, and AI agent approvals.
The announcement follows confirmation that wallets sold through an Asian reseller contained malicious implants. Former Mt Gox CEO Mark Karpeles reported that individuals notified Ledger of spyware in tampered devices as early as December 2025, with the company acknowledging the issue on its website in March 2026. Over $90 million was stolen from compromised wallets before Asian reseller supply chains were suspended.

Bitcoin declined 3.8% to $81,484, Ethereum fell 5.7% to $2,386, and XRP dropped 8.3% to $1.28. The total cryptocurrency market cap stands at $2.72 trillion.
Among major altcoins, Monero gained 9.7%, Injective rose 5.6%, and Celestia climbed 5.1%. The top losers included Starknet down 46.7%, Pump.fun down 27.1%, and Raydium down 26.5%.

Russia announced plans to ban direct peer-to-peer cryptocurrency trades between individuals beginning July 1, 2027, requiring individuals to use authorized intermediaries for such transactions.
Binance.US is reportedly seeking to raise up to $100 million in a funding round that could value the exchange at $1 billion, significantly below its $4.5 billion pre-money valuation from 2022.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Bo Hines, a former crypto adviser to President Trump who later joined stablecoin issuer Tether, maintained a stake in an investment company that profited from the passage of a stablecoin bill while serving in government. Hines's company Nxum received $6.3 million from Tether, with initial payments occurring while Hines remained in his government position.
