Two public mentions resolved the first bets written into Hunter Biden's LAPTOP memecoin, permanently destroying 10 million tokens worth approximately $3.56 million. Digital artist Beeple and Eric Trump's references to the coin each triggered one of the predetermined burns.
LAPTOP operates as a political prediction token rather than a traditional memecoin. Thirty percent of its 1 billion token supply is attached to 30 public predictions about real-world political outcomes. When a predicted event resolves affirmatively, the associated tokens are burned. If the opposite occurs, those tokens are routed to charity instead.
The predictions cover scenarios including Donald Trump's potential impeachment, Democrats gaining control of either chamber of Congress in 2026, Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high price, and a Democratic candidate winning the 2028 U.S. Presidential Election.
After Beeple's public reference, 5 million tokens were burned. Eric Trump's mention settled a second prediction, resulting in an additional burn. Hunter Biden confirmed both events, and the project announced that 1% of total supply had been removed from circulation.
The $3.56 million burn figure must be contextualized against LAPTOP's broader price decline. The token currently trades near $0.38, representing a 99.8% decline from its all-time high of $199.51, reached on September 9 just two hours into trading. On its launch day, the token imploded 98% in 90 minutes, falling from $199 to $1.36.
The token's market capitalization currently stands at approximately $140 million, with a fully diluted valuation near $389 million. Daily trading volume of approximately $22 million contrasts sharply with the market cap.
The project's development team attributed the launch crash to predatory sniper bots and thin liquidity rather than insider selling, stating: "You should not expect us or anyone else to make this token more valuable for you."
Twenty-eight prediction slots remain active, holding the bulk of the 30% allocation designated for predictions. Several of these remaining predictions are tied to the November 2026 midterm elections rather than to celebrity mentions, creating scheduled supply events dependent on political outcomes.
