Hyperliquid faces mounting supply headwinds as major token holders accelerate exits. A long-term whale holder recently completed a profitable year-long trade, moving approximately 969,595 HYPE worth roughly $79.18 million to Coinbase Prime and FalconX exchanges. The trader had accumulated around 2.89 million HYPE at approximately $17.35 per token and staked the position before selling at higher prices, securing nearly $140 million in total profit.
Beyond the whale's exit, venture capital firm Multicoin Capital has been systematically reducing its HYPE holdings. The firm acquired approximately 4 million HYPE in February and March but has since decreased its position to just under 1 million tokens. In recent transactions, Multicoin deposited 404,000 HYPE worth roughly $34.2 million to Coinbase Prime, with an additional $91 million in HYPE holdings remaining in their portfolio that could enter the market.
ETF Demand Emerges but Falls Short of Supply
Institutional demand has begun to materialize through cryptocurrency exposure. Hashdex, a crypto asset manager, added HYPE to its NCIQ ETF, allocating 3.4% of the fund to the token—creating approximately $14.7 million in exposure across 177,313 HYPE tokens.
However, this ETF allocation remains significantly smaller than recent major-holder deposits. Multicoin's latest $21.7 million Coinbase Prime deposit alone already exceeded the entire HYPE position in the NCIQ ETF, illustrating the current imbalance between institutional supply and demand.
Market Dynamics Ahead
The concentration of supply in exchange wallets signals that market conditions depend on whether buyer demand can absorb ongoing institutional selling. HYPE's inclusion in the top five holdings of NCIQ may establish a regular demand channel through fund inflows, shifting the market from one-sided distribution toward a contest between new institutional buyers and existing sellers. The sustainability of that balance remains uncertain, with strong NCIQ inflows potentially narrowing the supply-demand gap or continued whale deposits potentially keeping supply dominant.
