Hyperliquid’s HYPE Holds Near $73 Ahead of AQAv2 Burn Engine Launch

Hyperliquid’s native token, HYPE, has held near the $73 level as market participants look toward the upcoming launch of the AQAv2 mechanism. Onchain analyst Pentosh1 recently pointed to the platform's fee-burn engine as a key driver for the asset, noting its performance relative to broader market conditions.

Since November 2024, Hyperliquid has utilized approximately 99% of its protocol fees to buy back and burn tokens, removing 462 million HYPE valued at roughly $1.27 billion from circulation. The platform's lifetime trading volume has reached trillions of dollars, with Defillama data placing annualized protocol revenue between $600 million and $950 million.

AQAv2 Expansion

The upcoming AQAv2 (Aligned Quote Asset v2) upgrade is scheduled to begin accruing yield on August 26, following a successful validator vote earlier in the year. While the existing program relies on trading fees, AQAv2 will route approximately 90% of reserve yield earned on the platform's more than $5 billion in USDC holdings into the Assistance Fund.

Analysts project this secondary revenue stream will add between $135 million and $160 million in additional annual buyback pressure. Both Coinbase, designated as Hyperliquid’s official USDC treasury deployer in May, and Circle have committed to staking HYPE positions to support the framework.

Recent Market Activity

HYPE traded near $73, remaining close to its all-time high of $76.67 recorded on June 16, 2026. The token previously experienced a 20% to 25% increase over a 24-hour period following comments from President Donald Trump during an August 19 White House meeting. Trump stated that Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulators, led by Chairman Michael Selig, were working to bring the platform into compliance within the United States, though no formal timeline or approval was announced.
