Hyperliquid Token Drops 5% as Whale Transfers Spark Selloff Concerns

Hyperliquid's native token HYPE has declined 5% from its recent all-time high, falling to approximately $90 as large investors move significant holdings to cryptocurrency exchanges.

The token has rallied more than 100% over the past year, outperforming leading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple. It reached nearly $100 earlier this month before bears entered the market.

Whale Activity Signals Potential Further Decline

Analytics platform Lookonchain identified several large transfers that suggest institutional investors may be preparing to sell. One wallet identified as 0xc745 deposited over $16 million worth of HYPE to OKX and Bybit. While such transfers do not guarantee a sale, they are commonly interpreted as precursors to liquidation.

Additional whale activity includes a Hypersphere Ventures-linked wallet that offloaded 62,869 HYPE worth roughly $5.78 million, realizing a $2.13 million profit. Another large deposit of nearly $50 million entered Kraken earlier this month.

Multicoin transferred 4.23 million HYPE worth approximately $300 million to Coinbase since the end of July, according to X account BSCN.

Market Implications

Whale liquidations typically create downward pressure through two mechanisms. First, increased token supply on the market can pressure prices if demand remains flat. Second, experienced investors' selling decisions often trigger panic selling among smaller traders.

One analyst suggested HYPE could decline to the mid-70s, though characterized the asset as a strong performer and essential holding for crypto portfolios.

Counterbalance: Exchange Outflow Data

Recent exchange netflow data presents a contrasting signal. Over the past several days, outflows from centralized exchanges have significantly exceeded inflows, indicating investors are moving holdings to self-custody solutions. This reduction in exchange liquidity could ease immediate selling pressure and potentially support future price increases.
