Indian stock markets could face further downside as global uncertainty, foreign investor selling and rising borrowing costs weigh on investor sentiment, according to Abhay Agarwal, founder and fund manager at Piper Serica Advisors. Agarwal said rising bond yields, crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions are adding pressure, while expensive mid-cap and small-cap valuations increase correction risks. “Until these issues are resolved, the market will remain in a sell-on-rise phase,” he said. He also warned that higher interest rates could hurt bank margins, consumer spending and auto demand. Agarwal said his fund has increased its cash allocation to 30% while awaiting better investment opportunities.
