Interactive Brokers announced on Tuesday the launch of ether staking services powered by Zerohash, expanding its cryptocurrency offerings. Eligible customers can now stake ETH directly through the platform's Client Portal.
The brokerage, which oversees $964.7 billion in total client equity, allows clients to stake or unstake their ether holdings while tracking their requests. Rewards earned from staking are automatically added to staked positions, enabling compounding returns over time.
Interactive Brokers CEO Milan Galik drew a parallel to the firm's existing offerings, stating that staking provides clients an opportunity to earn rewards on cryptocurrency holdings, similar to how the Stock Yield Enhancement Program generates additional income on share ownership.
Institutional Adoption of Staking Grows
The move reflects broader adoption of cryptocurrency staking across traditional finance institutions in 2026. In August, Bank of New York Mellon partnered with Galaxy Digital to launch crypto staking services. Last week, Bitgo Bank & Trust extended Lido staking to U.S. clients following previous rollouts in Europe and Asia.
Zerohash introduced its staking-as-a-service offering for banks and brokerages in June 2026, with Interactive Brokers and Public.com among the initial participants in the initiative.
Interactive Brokers began entering the cryptocurrency space in 2021 with a partnership with Paxos, enabling customers to trade bitcoin, ether, litecoin, and bitcoin cash. The firm later expanded its crypto services to Hong Kong and the European Economic Area before Tuesday's staking announcement.
