Interactive Map Tracks 67 Million U.S. Crypto Holders Across States and Districts

The National Cryptocurrency Association has released an interactive map estimating the distribution of 67 million American cryptocurrency holders across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the 435 U.S. House districts. The map allows users to view data by state and congressional district, providing a geographic breakdown of crypto ownership nationwide.

California leads the estimates with approximately 9.5 million crypto holders, followed by Texas with 5.94 million, Florida with 4.71 million, New York with 4.66 million, and Illinois with 2.64 million. Regionally, the South accounts for 38% of holders, while the West represents 27%. The Midwest and Northeast each account for 18%, showing that crypto ownership is distributed across the country rather than concentrated in major technology and financial centers.

The figures presented on the map are statistical estimates rather than verified counts. The methodology combines a national demographic model based on a sample of 10,000 U.S. crypto holders with district-level signals to produce estimates and 95% credible intervals for each geographic area. The broader ownership estimate came from an online survey conducted by The Harris Poll between February 12 and March 3, with findings weighted and extrapolated to the crypto-owning population. The sample data is accurate to within 0.7 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

Separate research indicates that 49.6 million Americans hold bitcoin specifically, representing 18.6% of the adult population, demonstrating a narrower ownership figure when measured against a single digital asset.

Economic Impact

According to NCA analysis, the crypto industry supports 231,845 U.S. jobs nationwide and generates $55.4 billion in economic activity with $30.8 billion in worker income. The employment figure comprises approximately 34,000 direct positions at crypto companies, 75,000 indirect jobs at suppliers, and 123,000 induced jobs supported by worker spending.

California leads in employment impact with approximately 57,600 crypto-supported jobs, $16.9 billion in economic impact, and $7.7 billion in worker income. New York follows with 53,800 jobs, while Texas supports 26,500, Washington accounts for 15,100, and North Carolina has approximately 9,500.
