Internet Computer [ICP] gained 2.5% in recent trading, tracking a broader cryptocurrency market advance. The rally followed comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller regarding interest rate expectations at the central bank's September meeting.
Bitcoin, which drove the market-wide price increase, climbed 4.3% to briefly exceed $82,200 before settling near $80,000. ICP's recent strength reflects broader market momentum rather than token-specific developments.
Performance and Long-Term Context
Measured from its August 1 low of $1.99, ICP has risen 27.7% in just over a month. However, the token remains in a prolonged downtrend extending to April 2024. ICP is down 99.6% from its all-time high of $700 in May 2021.
According to a Taurex report, ICP ranks as the weakest performer among 60 cryptocurrencies evaluated by price performance. Nearly all investors face significant losses on their positions.
Technical Levels and Consolidation
ICP has consolidated around the $2 region for an extended period and has since broken its descending trendline resistance. Traders identified $2.62 as the next immediate resistance level, with $2.80 and $3.20 representing further potential targets if momentum continues.
The token flipped the $2.40 supply zone—a July high—into a demand level in late August, which analysts viewed as a positive technical development. However, several overhead resistance levels remain intact above current prices.
Prolonged consolidation periods can produce sharp price movements when capital rotates between assets. If Bitcoin sustains its recent momentum, ICP may be positioned to continue its current rally, though such advances typically face profit-taking pressure at higher levels.
