The native token of AssangeDAO, JUSTICE, rallied approximately 300% on Thursday after Wikileaks founder Julian Assange posted on X following two years of silence. The token price moved from around $0.0000181 to $0.00008491, trimming its yearly losses to 12%.
Assange posted "I'm back" on X and shared a Wikileaks post with his picture. His sister, Stella Assange, confirmed that his official account had been restored and indicated that additional news would be announced the following week.
The price movement occurred on exceptionally low trading volume. The token had recorded approximately $600 in trading volume over the 24 hours before the rally, though volume subsequently climbed above $90,000 while remaining minimal by market standards. Despite the recent rally, JUSTICE remains down 97% from its all-time high.
AssangeDAO Background
AssangeDAO was formed in 2022 to fund Assange's legal defense. The organization raised 16,593 EdaoTH, valued at approximately $53 million at the time, to bid on a one-of-one NFT created by digital artist Pak in collaboration with Assange. The funds were subsequently used by the Wau Holland Foundation to cover Assange's legal costs.
A similar sharp rally in JUSTICE was reported in June 2024 when Assange was released from a United Kingdom prison, though that rally proved short-lived and ended with double-digit losses.
Bitcoin Community Response
Multiple members of the Bitcoin community welcomed Assange's return on X. Simon Dixon, an early Bitcoin investor and author, wrote that Assange "was taken out for exposing MIC, FIC & TIC" and that "Bitcoin kept @wikileaks alive."
Wikileaks has historical ties to Bitcoin. After major financial services companies including PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, and Bank of America ceased donations to Wikileaks in late 2010 following the organization's publication of U.S. diplomatic cables, Wikileaks turned to Bitcoin for donations in 2011. An anonymous donor covered Assange's $500,000 flight debt with an 8 BTC donation in 2024.
