Justin Sun Reduces Ethereum Holdings, Shifts Capital to US Tech Stocks

Justin Sun, founder of TRON, has significantly reduced his Ethereum exposure and redirected capital into US equities. In an October 17, 2026 interview, Sun disclosed that he had sold nearly 80-90% of his Ethereum positions, with most sales occurring in the $3,600-$4,000 price range.

Sun now retains only 20% of his original Ethereum holdings as what he describes as a base asset, and stated he has no plans to repurchase the sold positions. He characterized this reallocation as part of a broader investment strategy that distinguishes between foundational and aggressive assets.

Portfolio Adjustments

Sun's Bitcoin holdings remain unchanged and are stored in cold wallets, offline storage systems disconnected from the internet. He attributed this security approach to concerns about potential risks from quantum computing and AI algorithms.

The proceeds from Ethereum sales moved primarily into US technology stocks. NVIDIA represents his main US equity position, which he has maintained due to the chipmaker's role in artificial intelligence. Sun also holds a substantial allocation to the Nasdaq 100, an index tracking 100 of the largest non-financial companies on the Nasdaq exchange. He reported no exposure to A-shares, yuan-denominated stocks listed in mainland China.

Investment Outlook

Despite holding significant Nasdaq 100 exposure, Sun described his outlook on the index as slightly bearish, citing concerns about capital concentration and rising interest rates. Capital concentration refers to how money clusters in a small number of large companies, potentially making an index more fragile than its size suggests.

Sun has not established any short positions against traditional assets despite his cautious stance. He expressed optimism about AI applications and Web3, while remaining cautious about traditional hardware sectors.

Holdings and Verification

On-chain data indicated Sun's overall holdings exceeded $2.25 billion prior to his public disclosures. That data also showed positions in Bitcoin and stETH, Lido's liquid staking token that represents staked Ethereum remaining tradable on markets.

Sun's portfolio rotation reflects a strategic shift away from aggressive Ethereum exposure toward Bitcoin and selected US equities, with his on-chain activity expected to provide verification of the stated investment plan.
