Kraken, one of the world's major cryptocurrency exchanges, experienced a temporary technical disruption on October 30, 2026, affecting both spot and derivatives trading.
According to Kraken's status dashboard, the issue began at 02:42 UTC and prevented some users from connecting to the platform and successfully submitting orders. The disruption affected Kraken's website and mobile application, along with its REST, WebSocket, and FIX APIs—interfaces that allow retail traders, institutional clients, and automated trading systems to access market data and execute trades.
Kraken confirmed the incident was resolved at 03:42 UTC, approximately one hour after it was first reported. The exchange clarified that the disruption did not indicate a security breach or loss of customer funds, describing it as a connectivity and order-processing issue.
Context on Exchange Resilience
The outage comes as Kraken continues expanding its xStocks platform, which offers tokenized versions of traditional stocks. The platform now hosts over 1,000 listings and has seen more than 50% of xStocks trading volume take place outside conventional stock market hours, reflecting growing demand for round-the-clock trading flexibility.
The incident also follows a separate issue in late October when Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi apologized for emails sent to Monero buyers requesting personal information including employment details and proof of income.
