Cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin announced on August 20 that its Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) has achieved certification under the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 standard. The certification addresses the governance and responsible deployment of artificial intelligence across the platform's operations, including anti-money laundering, market surveillance, and fraud detection.
Scope of the Standard
ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is an international standard dedicated to artificial intelligence management systems. It requires organizations to maintain transparency in AI deployment, define clear accountability, and commit to ongoing improvement. For KuCoin, the certification applies to its AI-powered tools used for monitoring market manipulation, identifying suspicious transactions, and managing customer inquiries.
KuCoin CEO BC Wong commented on the milestone, stating, "We believe the future of the industry will not be defined simply by more advanced AI, but by more trusted AI."
Compliance Integration
The new AI certification adds to KuCoin's existing compliance framework, which includes ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for information security management, SOC 2 Type II for operational controls, ISO 22301:2019 for business continuity, and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 for privacy information management.
KuCoin currently serves over 45 million users in more than 200 regions, providing access to over 1,500 digital assets. With this announcement, KuCoin becomes the second digital asset platform to receive the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, following Crypto.com, which obtained the same recognition in February 2026.
