Ledger has announced Atom, an Android-based crypto security device designed to integrate daily applications with hardware-protected transaction approval. The company unveiled the product at its Op3n event in Paris on Thursday, with releases scheduled for 2027.
The launch occurs following a supply-chain attack on Ledger hardware wallets. Criminals purchased authentic wallets from merchants in Southeast Asia, installed hidden components that captured recovery phrases during device setup, and reintroduced them to distribution channels. The attack resulted in suspected losses ranging from $86 million to $93 million. Ledger confirmed that its secure chips, operating system, and internal servers remained uncompromised, characterizing the incident as a localized distribution attack.
Device Features and Security Architecture
Atom runs applications on an Android operating system while a separate secure chip manages private keys and sensitive data. A dedicated approval screen governed by Ledger OS prevents tampering by standard applications. The device includes a hardware switch to disable its camera and microphone, and an active shield surrounding secure components designed to detect physical tampering or probe attempts.
The device will support Ledger Wallet functionality and the Solana Mobile Seeker app, providing access to Solana-based applications. Future capabilities planned for the security platform include identity verification, secure messaging, and AI agent approval functions.
Pricing and Availability
Ledger is accepting reservations for Atom's Founders Edition at $849, with a fully refundable $100 deposit. The company estimates deliveries during the second quarter of 2027, though its published schedule may change. The company has cautioned that Atom remains in development and reservations are not purchases of finished devices.
Some planned features will depend on licensing, certification, and integration work before shipping. Ledger is exploring exchange transaction approvals with Kraken parent Payward and identity verification capabilities with Persona.
