Lighter's LIT token surged to a new local high of $5.30 within a recent 24-hour period, marking the latest swing in volatile price action. The rally represented a double-digit gain and followed a 50% increase over the preceding seven days. However, the token later retreated, falling 6% from its peak.
Three primary factors appeared to drive the initial surge. Large token movements to staking addresses increased investor participation in the network's staking program. Over 140,000 LIT were withdrawn from exchanges OKX and Bybit to a single address, with that whale's staking portfolio reaching 6.598 million LIT. Across the network, more than 110 million LIT tokens were staked, representing 44.2% of the circulating supply.
Supply-side dynamics also contributed to the rally. The Lighter protocol has repurchased 17.50 million tokens since its token generation event, equal to 7% of circulating supply. Additionally, the DEX allocated 11 million tokens for farming rewards to boost network activity.
Trading activity intensified alongside these developments. Open interest in LIT futures contracts exceeded $1 billion, and August trading volume surpassed $39.5 billion. Lighter's integration into Robinhood Chain partly drove this increase in market participation.
Technically, LIT broke above the $4.90-$5 zone, a key resistance level that previously formed the neckline of an inverted head-and-shoulders pattern. Volatility expanded as Bollinger Bands widened from prior compression, while technical indicators signaled strong buy conditions on daily and weekly timeframes.
The rally proved short-lived. Following its peak above $5, LIT lost the level as support and entered bearish pressure. Profit-taking from large holders contributed to the subsequent decline.
