Lighter (LIT) rose 12.85% over the past 24 hours, the largest gain among the 100 biggest cryptocurrencies, bringing its seven-day advance to 23.49%. The token was trading at $3.83 at the time of reporting, while the broader market fell more than 2% over the same period and every large-cap token traded in the red.
Two developments in two days — one from a research firm and one from Lighter itself — help explain the move.
A research note and a licensing plan
Delphi Digital published a report on October 20 arguing that speculation is the theme of this decade. The firm recommends owning the platforms that profit from trading through fees or user distribution, rather than the assets being traded.
Lighter appears in the report alongside Robinhood and Hyperliquid (HYPE). Delphi cited Lighter's zero fees for retail traders and its distribution through Robinhood Wallet, which since July has offered Lighter perpetual futures in selected markets outside the US. Robinhood also invested in Lighter's November 2025 funding round.
"Lighter is the clearest second bet," the report read.
By the report's DefiLlama figures, Lighter handled about $56 billion in 30-day volume in early October. Hyperliquid led with roughly $203 billion, while Variational and Aster ranked between the two.
Lighter then added a regulatory catalyst of its own. Founder Vladimir Novakovski said Lighter will apply to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in November.
Still less than half its peak
Traders priced in both the licensing plan and Delphi's endorsement this week, lifting LIT by double digits. The gain still leaves the token at less than half its December peak.
LIT set its all-time high of $7.86 on December 30, 2025, the day its airdrop went live. From $3.83, the token would need to gain about 105% to revisit that level.
Two events on Lighter's calendar could shape how much of that gap the token closes in the coming months.
The CFTC filing comes first. New supply follows: team and investor allocations, half of all LIT, begin vesting in late January 2027, according to tokenomics data. The first monthly release covers about 13.5 million tokens.
The November filing will show whether those talks become a formal application before new supply arrives.
