Lightspark has launched a Cards Playground, a visual environment enabling fintechs and developers to design and test card programs backed by stablecoins. The platform allows users to experiment with card issuance, wallet management, spending controls, refunds, and transaction flows while viewing the underlying API activity.
Lightspark CEO David Marcus announced the launch on X, describing it as a step toward building a stablecoin-backed card issuance platform developed in partnership with Visa.
Partnership and Infrastructure Rollout
Lightspark and Visa announced plans in April 2026 to enable stablecoin- and Bitcoin-backed Visa debit cards across more than 100 countries, targeting businesses and fintechs seeking to provide card-based access to digital asset balances.
The company partnered with Lithic to power its Visa card program, with Lead Bank issuing the cards. The infrastructure uses USDC for settlement, while Lightspark manages stablecoin balances and their conversion into local currency during purchases.
Broader Stablecoin Strategy
Lightspark announced its stablecoin issuance platform plans in 2024 alongside Spark, its Bitcoin Layer 2 network. The platform has since expanded beyond its initial roadmap to cover stablecoin issuance, accounts, cards, and payments.
The Cards Playground launch reflects a broader industry trend toward making stablecoins function as financial infrastructure rather than limiting them to cryptocurrency trading and transfers. By August 2026, cumulative stablecoin card top-up volume had reached $13.8 billion.
