Network Operations Resume After Security Patch
MANTRA Chain has successfully restored network operations following a comprehensive security patch that addressed a critical vulnerability in its Cosmos-EVM module. Block production on the blockchain restarted at 5:30 a.m. UTC on August 22, ending approximately 30 hours of downtime.
The crisis began late on August 20 when MANTRA's security team identified malicious activity targeting an upstream software dependency. To contain the threat, developers initiated a complete network shutdown, disabling transactions, staking mechanisms, cross-chain bridges, and inter-blockchain communication protocols. Several cryptocurrency exchanges also suspended deposit and withdrawal services for the network.
Investigation and Asset Safety
MANTRA determined that the security weakness resided within its Cosmos-EVM module. Subsequent investigations revealed that suspicious activity was limited to two internal wallet addresses under MANTRA's control before the threat was neutralized. The development team confirmed that no assets belonging to users, exchange partners, or ecosystem collaborators were compromised, and all user account balances remained intact without requiring a state rollback.
Before reactivating the network, engineers created a blockchain snapshot at block height 17,449,398 and deployed software version 8.4.0. The upgrade underwent rigorous testing on the DuKong testnet environment and controlled simulations before validators were authorized to restart operations. While mainnet operations are back online, the DuKong testnet remains offline with restoration efforts expected in the following days, and a detailed post-mortem analysis is anticipated.
Market Reaction
During the security incident, MANTRA's native token experienced significant downward pressure, declining roughly 18.5% from approximately $0.005060 to an all-time low of $0.004126. Concurrently, market participants drove trading activity up by nearly 600%, pushing trading volume to approximately $24 million. MANTRA has not officially attributed the price decline to the security breach.
