Market Update: Nvidia Earnings Anticipation, Software Sector Decline, and Crypto Retreat

Trading sessions began with market participants positioning themselves for Nvidia's quarterly financial disclosure, scheduled for release after the market close. Industry observers view the upcoming results as potentially pivotal for the ongoing artificial intelligence investment narrative.

Nvidia stock advanced 0.3% during pre-market hours following a 2.2% climb in the prior session. Fellow semiconductor companies Intel and Broadcom also posted modest gains, though the chip industry generally adopted a wait-and-see approach ahead of the announcement.

Technology Software Sector Under Pressure

Software companies faced significant headwinds during the session. Intuit tumbled nearly 12% despite surpassing quarterly profit expectations, weighed down by fiscal 2027 revenue projections that missed analyst targets. The financial software provider forecast full-year revenue between $23.28 billion and $23.51 billion, falling short of the $23.7 billion consensus expectation.

Other software firms also retreated. ServiceNow, Adobe, and Atlassian each dropped more than 2%. Salesforce declined 1.6% ahead of its own earnings report, and Palantir shed 1.2%. SAP plunged nearly 5% following a downgrade from UBS, which lowered its rating from buy to neutral due to concerns over enterprise AI product delivery.

Additionally, nCino fell 4% on disappointing revenue guidance, while Zoom dropped over 5% despite exceeding analyst projections.

Cryptocurrency Retreat Impacts Related Equities

In the digital asset sector, Bitcoin pulled back to approximately $78,500 after trading near $81,000 earlier in the week. The downturn created downward pressure on cryptocurrency-associated stocks, with Strategy falling 1.7%, while Coinbase Global and Robinhood Markets each dropped 1.4%.

Select Positive Performers

Several individual equities bucked the broader market weakness:

  • Biohaven: Soared 13% after announcing a worldwide licensing partnership with SK Biopharmaceuticals valued at up to $795 million.
  • Semtech: Climbed 3.2% following second-quarter revenue of $341.9 million, representing 32.7% year-over-year growth that beat expectations.
  • HEICO: Advanced 2.5% after reporting record quarterly revenue of $1.41 billion.
  • Summit Therapeutics: Rose 5.5% following favorable Phase III clinical trial outcomes shared by collaboration partner Akeso.

Conversely, Spyre Therapeutics dropped 12% following mixed Phase 2 data for its rheumatoid arthritis drug candidate. Market attention remains focused on after-hours earnings reports from Nvidia, Salesforce, Okta, CrowdStrike, and Nutanix.
