Mastercard and BVNK Launch Global Money Platform Combining Fiat and Stablecoins

Mastercard and BVNK have launched the Global Money Platform, infrastructure designed to let businesses embed multi-currency accounts that hold fiat and stablecoins together. The platform was unveiled Thursday and represents the first significant integration of capabilities since Mastercard acquired BVNK in August for roughly $1.8 billion.

At the core of the platform is a global money account that supports multiple currencies, allowing fiat and stablecoins to coexist with conversion handled through a single application programming interface. Banks, fintech companies, and enterprises can embed these accounts into their own branded products.

The platform offers a modular toolkit covering sending, receiving, converting, storing, spending, and earning functions. Users can begin with specific features and add additional capabilities over time. The system integrates with Mastercard Move, the company's money-transfer network, enabling users to send local-currency payments from stablecoin balances to recipients' bank accounts. Coverage is expected to reach more than 40 currencies across more than 200 countries in 2027.

Customers will also be able to spend stablecoin balances across Mastercard's merchant network, with card issuing available in more than 130 countries. Initial integrators include payments firm Nuvei, card-issuing platform Marqeta, Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech.

Mastercard framed the offering as infrastructure for a multi-money ecosystem. The company holds a New York BitLicense covering stablecoins and tokenized deposits. Mastercard said the Global Money Platform will add support for agentic commerce and tokenized deposits as future enhancements.
