Mastercard has opened its global payments network to stablecoin spending through a new platform built in partnership with BVNK. Announced on October 15, the Global Money Platform allows customers to use digital dollar balances at hundreds of millions of merchant locations without manually converting their holdings first.
The platform enables banks, fintech companies, and businesses to offer accounts holding both fiat currencies and stablecoins, with real-time conversion, payment cards, and international payouts managed through a single application programming interface. Card issuing is available across more than 130 countries.
Early adopters integrating the service include Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech.
Combining Traditional and Digital Payment Infrastructure
The Global Money Platform connects conventional banking with blockchain-based payments through one interface. Mastercard's Move platform provides access to more than 17 billion payment endpoints, allowing businesses to convert stablecoin balances into local currency payments delivered to bank accounts. The company plans to expand coverage beyond 40 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories by 2027.
This launch marks the first major product integration since Mastercard acquired BVNK in August in a transaction valued at up to $1.8 billion, including contingent payments.
The development reflects a shift in how stablecoins are being integrated into mainstream financial infrastructure, positioning them alongside conventional money within the same payment systems.
