Mastercard launched Stablecoin Security, a fraud-detection tool unveiled Monday at the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas. The platform combines Mastercard's payment intelligence with blockchain analytics to assess risk across the full lifecycle of a stablecoin transaction, from initiation through settlement on a public ledger.
The tool analyzes signals including fund origin, exposure to restricted parties, and scam indicators, generating a risk score before payment settles. It is delivered through a platform-agnostic API and integrates into existing compliance and fraud workflows. Borderless.xyz and Keyrails, both alumni of Mastercard's Start Path blockchain accelerator, are the initial program participants.
Mastercard cited a Bank for International Settlements study of 593 million stablecoin transfers in 2025, which found that nearly 60% were complex, multi-step transactions rather than simple one-to-one payments. This complexity creates challenges for institutions monitoring risk across an entire transaction journey.
Expansion of stablecoin services: The launch represents Mastercard's continued integration of stablecoins into its core business. The company recently launched a Global Money Platform with BVNK, the stablecoin infrastructure firm it acquired in August, allowing businesses to hold and move fiat and stablecoins through a single connection. Mastercard has also secured a New York BitLicense covering stablecoins and tokenized deposits, and expanded stablecoin settlement to include Circle's USDC and Ripple's RLUSD.
Stablecoin Security builds on Mastercard's existing tools Crypto Credential and Crypto Secure. The solution is launching first in North America, with worldwide availability expected in 2027.
