MediaMarktSaturn, the parent company of European electronics retailer MediaMarkt, has removed all Ledger products from its stores and online platforms following reports of tampered hardware wallets.
A MediaMarktSaturn spokesperson confirmed the action to Cointelegraph on Tuesday, stating: "The MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group has removed all of the manufacturer's products from its stores and online platforms and is in contact with the manufacturer. We take this incident very seriously."
The removal follows reports from an X user identified as Johannes, who claimed Monday that he purchased two Ledger wallets from separate MediaMarkt stores. According to Johannes, both devices contained unauthorized cables and cellular modules.
Ledger announced Friday that it was investigating reports of losses involving devices sold through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. The company said Tuesday that implants in affected devices transmitted users' recovery phrases over cellular networks and that investigations extended beyond CryptoBilis sales.
Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès also reported Tuesday that a Ledger Flex purchased at Singapore's airport contained a spy implant. Ledger responded by referring users to its latest CryptoBilis investigation update but did not directly address the Singapore case.
Cointelegraph contacted Ledger to determine whether it had confirmed any tampered devices in Europe, but the company did not respond by publication time.
