Metaplanet's board of directors approved the establishment of Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited on September 11, a fully controlled Hong Kong subsidiary that will receive $1 million in seed funding. The company anticipates completing formal registration in Hong Kong by September 2026.
The new subsidiary will execute transactions involving Bitcoin, publicly traded stocks, preferred equity instruments, credit-based products, and other liquid assets during Asian market operating hours. Its operations will encompass Bitcoin-linked perpetual preferred securities, derivative contracts, and structured investment vehicles.
Simon Gerovich, Darren Winia, and Kelvin Lee will serve as founding directors, with responsibilities including executing trades, tracking portfolio positions, and managing risk during periods when American financial markets are closed.
The Hong Kong facility complements Metaplanet's existing Miami-based Metaplanet Asset Management center, which became operational in March 2026. Together, the two operations provide the company with continuous investment capabilities spanning Asian, American, and European time zones.
Project Nova Expansion
The Hong Kong subsidiary represents a key component of Project Nova, Metaplanet's strategy to develop a comprehensive Bitcoin-centered financial services ecosystem. The initiative encompasses asset management operations, securities placement, capital markets activities, and Bitcoin-collateralized credit offerings.
In July, Metaplanet completed its acquisition of Japanese brokerage firm Siiibo Securities for 2.1 billion yen, rebranding it as Metaplanet Securities under a Type I Financial Instruments Business license from Japanese regulators. The company has also initiated research partnerships with JPYC and blockchain tokenization specialist Progmat to develop Bitcoin-collateralized digital lending instruments.
Corporate Holdings and Market Activity
Metaplanet disclosed 43,000 BTC in corporate treasury holdings following a second-quarter acquisition of 2,823 BTC. CEO Simon Gerovich stated that no Bitcoin was sold and holdings remain at 43,000 BTC.
In a separate transaction announced in August, Metaplanet will transfer 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million in cash to Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise, positioning the company to control a 95.7% ownership stake. The entity is planned to be rebranded as Superplanet with a new Nasdaq trading symbol of SUPA, subject to a five-year restriction on selling common shares acquired through this exchange.
Metaplanet projects the Hong Kong subsidiary will generate negligible effects on consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2026.
