Phil Geiger has departed Metaplanet after serving as Head of Business Development at the Tokyo-listed Bitcoin treasury company. Geiger announced his departure via LinkedIn, stating he had completed his tenure after gaining insight into the operations of a public Bitcoin treasury company.
Geiger is transitioning to three new roles within the Bitcoin sector. He will serve as Chief Marketing Officer at Verify Wealth, a financial planning firm focused on Bitcoin holders, while also taking on the role of President of the Bitcoin Scholars Fund, an organization dedicated to Bitcoin education and student support programs. Additionally, he will serve as an adviser to Branta, a Bitcoin transaction security company.
During his time at Metaplanet, Geiger joined as Head of Business Development and was involved in communicating the company's Bitcoin strategy. He also worked on growing Bitcoin.JP, which Metaplanet had acquired. Metaplanet has continued to build a significant corporate Bitcoin holding while positioning itself as a Bitcoin-focused financial platform.
At Verify Wealth, Geiger will work to develop financial planning services for Bitcoin holders. The Bitcoin Scholars Fund role will focus on expanding Bitcoin education initiatives. At Branta, he will advise on technology designed to help users verify transaction recipients before completing Bitcoin transfers without requiring custody of funds.
The departure reflects a broader trend among Bitcoin companies expanding beyond simple asset accumulation into areas such as financial advisory, education, and transaction security. For Metaplanet, the move represents a change in business development leadership as the company pursues its Bitcoin acquisition strategy.
