Michael Saylor's Chart Shows Bitcoin Volatility Matches Nvidia as Strategy Stock Swings 94%

Bitcoin's recent volatility has drawn comparisons to major technology stocks. According to a chart shared by Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor on October 4, Bitcoin's 30-day historical volatility now stands at 39%, matching Nvidia's volatility level. The metric, which measures how sharply a price moved over the past month, was compiled by Strategy as of the October 2 market close.

Among the Magnificent Seven tech stocks tracked, Bitcoin trailed only Meta at 47% volatility and Tesla at 43%. Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Apple all registered between 21% and 24% volatility.

Three Products, Three Volatility Profiles

Saylor presented three Strategy-linked assets as distinct investment layers. Bitcoin offers direct ownership, Strategy's common stock (MSTR) provides amplified exposure, and the company's preferred stock (STRC) delivers income with lower price swings.

The data reflects this structure clearly. MSTR registered 94% volatility—exactly double Meta's reading. By contrast, STRC logged just 9% volatility, lower than every Magnificent Seven stock. STRC is a perpetual preferred stock that pays a 12% annual dividend, with the rate reset monthly to hold the price near par value.

Support and Buyback Strategy

STRC previously experienced significant price pressure. The stock declined to approximately $75 in late June, roughly 25% below its $100 par value. According to Strategy CEO Phong Le, leverage was a key factor. Investors had borrowed at about 6% to collect the 12% yield; when Bitcoin dropped, margin calls forced selling pressure on the stock.

Since late July, Strategy has conducted buybacks and built a reserve of roughly $5 billion. The stock has climbed back toward $100. The company has also proposed a daily preferred dividend for STRC holders.

Ongoing Bitcoin Accumulation

Strategy continues to accumulate Bitcoin. The company currently holds 847,666 BTC at an average cost of $75,437. The company has funded recent purchases primarily through MSTR sales after selling STRC in May.

Saylor's volatility comparison suggests that Bitcoin's price stability relative to major tech stocks has shifted in recent months, though the durability of STRC's calm may depend on how long the company maintains price support near par value.
