Michael Saylor revived speculation about MicroStrategy's next bitcoin acquisition with a cryptic social media post on August 30. The message, which read "We're ₿ack," accompanied a chart showing the company's current bitcoin holdings without explicitly disclosing any new transaction.
MicroStrategy held 840,447 BTC valued at $65.72 billion as of the post. The company's most recent SEC filing from August 24 reported the same holdings, acquired for $63.36 billion at an average price of $75,385 per bitcoin, including fees and expenses.
The timing of Saylor's message followed a significant bitcoin price recovery that began August 19. Bitcoin climbed from around $65,000 to above $75,000 by August 21, reaching approximately $81,000 on August 27 before settling near $79,000 by August 30.
MicroStrategy paused bitcoin transactions for two consecutive weeks through August 23. Instead of purchasing additional bitcoin, the company sold approximately $2.01 billion in MSTR shares, increased its restricted USD reserve to $5.10 billion, and established $1.59 billion in USD Cash while repurchasing $136.4 million of preferred stock.
The capital restructuring lifted the company's combined dollar liquidity to $6.69 billion. The USD Cash account may finance potential bitcoin acquisitions, securities repurchases, convertible-note repayments, or further reserve increases, distinct from the restricted USD Reserve designated for dividends and interest payments.
MicroStrategy remains the largest publicly traded corporate bitcoin holder, controlling approximately 4 percent of bitcoin's fixed 21 million supply. The company pioneered the corporate treasury bitcoin model in August 2020.
The company's latest bitcoin sale occurred during the August 3-9 period, when MicroStrategy sold 1,690 BTC for $108.6 million. MicroStrategy's official bitcoin ledger records all acquisitions and sales, documenting four sales totaling 6,916 BTC since its most recent purchase on June 22.
The company's next SEC filing will clarify whether Saylor's post accompanied a renewed bitcoin acquisition or signaled another treasury decision.
