Microsoft, McDonald’s and Other Corporates Object to OKX-ICE Tokenized Stock Platform

A group of prominent U.S.-listed companies, including Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, and McDonald’s, have formally objected to OKX-ICE’s proposed tokenized stock trading platform, according to an updated public notice from OKXICE dated Oct. 19, 2026. The objections complicate the joint venture’s ambitions to bring traditional equities onchain.

Corporate Objections Filed

The filing identifies Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG/GOOGL), Goldman Sachs (GS), Qualcomm (QCOM), Caterpillar (CAT), McDonald’s (MCD), and Western Digital (WDC) among the objecting issuers. In total, 16 companies object to the tokenized stock listing. Other companies previously named include Broadcom, Verizon, UnitedHealth Group, Coreweave, Rocket Lab, Cerebras Systems, AppLovin, Applied Digital, and Applied Optoelectronics.

The objections are notable because OKX-ICE’s model does not involve synthetic bets on stock prices. Instead, it proposes digital tokens backed by actual shares held through a registered broker-dealer, with corresponding dividend and voting rights. However, corporate approval is not automatic, even when the underlying securities are genuine.

Cuomo Defends Tokenization Initiative

The corporate resistance adds a wrinkle to comments from former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who serves on OKX’s board and co-chairs its venture with Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange. During an Oct. 20 press conference attended by Bitcoin.com News, Cuomo defended the tokenization initiative and characterized the Securities and Exchange Commission’s temporary regulatory framework as an experiment that allows companies to decide whether to participate.

“There’ll be other companies that say: I want to be the first in the pool,” Cuomo told reporters, suggesting that some issuers would embrace the technology while others preferred to observe. The former New York Governor also questioned why stock trading should remain confined to traditional market hours in an increasingly connected global economy. “This is a 24-seven world,” he declared.

His enthusiasm, however, faces a practical test. Companies whose shares underpin these digital instruments have their own ideas about where and how those securities should trade.

Tokenized Trading Faces Corporate Reality Check

OKXICE intends to operate around the clock using permissioned Uniswap v4 liquidity pools on OKX’s X Layer blockchain. Approved participants would exchange tokenized stocks against stablecoins such as USDC, USDT, and USDG.

The platform’s temporary SEC exemption includes an issuer objection mechanism, giving corporations a formal avenue to challenge third-party tokenization of their shares. Importantly, the updated filing does not explain the companies’ motivations or establish that they oppose blockchain-based securities generally.

Nevertheless, the objections expose a fundamental tension in Wall Street’s tokenization experiment. Blockchain infrastructure can extend trading beyond conventional market hours, but technological capability does not eliminate corporate preferences or regulatory conditions. For OKXICE, building the machinery for nonstop stock trading may prove easier than persuading some of America’s most recognizable companies to participate.
