Moonbot Review: A Crypto Terminal for Active Scalpers

Moonbot is a crypto trading terminal designed for active scalpers, offering fast execution and extensive control over trades. It features a usable free tier and a perpetual PRO license, making it a strong option for many scalpers. However, the platform comes with a steep learning curve, exposing over 300 parameters, and runs natively only on Windows; macOS users require a virtual machine such as Parallels.

Key Features and Automation

Moonbot supports six centralized exchanges and the Hyperliquid DEX, and includes more than 20 strategies. It uses a non-custodial key model, keeping keys local. Real trading is accessible through the free mode, though the free tier only supports USD/stablecoin pairs.

The platform's tick-level charting stands out, making short spikes remain on the screen rather than disappearing inside a one-minute candle. A hybrid mode combines candles and ticks, allowing traders used to candle charts to gradually move to tick-based trading.

Moonbot balances workflow by letting users pick the market and entry while handling repetitive tasks such as moving orders and auto-placed exits. Its automated systems are flexible: users can set up a Detect to either fire a trade or simply send a notification, deciding how much trading to automate.

With Telegram controls, users can manage trading when away from the workstation. However, in the event of a crash or an update, access to a Windows machine is required.

Costs and Hidden Charges

Moonbot lists multiple tiers on its website, but the license is not the only cost. While the perpetual license gives users most features, some features—such as TradingView webhook, AlgoMod, and Arbitrage Prices—require MoonCredits, which can be earned or bought. Non-PRO users must pay for Moon News, a feature that allows manual or automatic trading when the terminal receives news items.

PRO is a one-time license, avoiding a recurring subscription. However, additional charges can apply:

  • Exchange trading fees: Charged by the exchange on every trade. Moonbot's MoonBonus cashback (via referral links) offsets part of them, which matters for scalpers due to high trade frequency.
  • VPS costs: If users run Moon Kernel near exchange servers, they must pay for a VPS themselves.
  • MoonCredits: Digital credits that give access to features not covered by the PRO tier.
  • Parallels license: macOS users running Windows via virtualization need software such as Parallels Desktop, sold as a subscription.

Risk Management and Testing

While Moonbot can reportedly react in milliseconds, speed works both ways: a fast strategy can also lose fast if the market does not behave as expected. A detect may fire a trade on a move that looks like a signal but isn't, and a short spike may lead to a large, sustained price drop. In fast markets, an exit order may not execute at the expected price.

Moonbot does not prevent losses, but it offers features to limit them. The stop-loss is the core setting applicable to all strategies. Users can set a stop-loss with market exit, closing the position at market price instead of re-placing a limit order. A stop-loss delay can hold the stop for a fraction of a second to prevent a panic sell on a random spike. However, if the stop-loss spread is too small, the sell order may not fill during a sharp price drop. According to the Moonbot team, users can cap each strategy by setting maximum allowable loss, target profit, and number of open positions.

Before using any strategies, testing is essential. Demo mode lets users run PRO features on live market data without sending real orders, and backtesting allows replaying historical data.

Security, Regulation, and Trust Signals

Moonbot has been in development since 2017. It was created by Mike, who is also listed as senior developer and technical lead on the official website. The platform runs MoonAcademy, its training program, under the leadership of Dmitry. Vano handles financial strategy and monetisation, and Aleksandr Blitz is a project ambassador who has been a Moonbot user since 2019. The team actively trades alongside community members and stays in direct contact with them day to day.

Ratings

  • Features and Automation: 4.5
  • Transparency and Trust: 3.8

Overall, Moonbot is a serious pick for traders who want faster execution and more control, but its steep learning curve and Windows-only native support are notable trade-offs.
