Morpho Blue is closing in on Aave V3 in stablecoin supply, holding $7.5 billion in supplied stablecoins against Aave V3's $7.9 billion, according to the figures cited in the source. Stablecoin deposits are the working capital of on-chain lending, shaping where borrowers go, what rates look like and which risk models the market trusts.
The numbers behind the race
Token Terminal data as of October 25, 2026 put total stablecoin deposits across 41 DeFi venues at $24 billion, spanning 31 blockchains. Within that pool, Aave V3 commands a 36.1% share and Morpho Blue holds 31.6%. Together, the two protocols account for 67.7% of all stablecoin deposits in the dataset, leaving the other 39 venues to split roughly a third of the market.
A separate total value locked snapshot from October 29, 2026 put Aave's stablecoin TVL at approximately $7.85 billion and Morpho's at $5.32 billion. TVL is the dollar value of assets sitting inside a protocol, and different trackers count it differently depending on which chains, markets and asset types they include.
That same late-October snapshot put broad DeFi TVL at approximately $87.8 billion, a level described as stable. Morpho added approximately $304 million week-over-week during that period, while other protocols saw contraction.
Why Morpho's design is pulling in deposits
Morpho Blue takes a different structural approach from Aave. Aave runs large shared pools where many assets sit together, so risk in one corner can, in theory, ripple across the whole system. Morpho Blue instead uses isolated markets. Each market pairs one specific loan asset with one specific collateral asset, and those markets can be created permissionlessly.
On top of those markets sit MetaMorpho vaults, managed by professional risk managers often called curators, who decide which isolated markets a vault's deposits flow into. Distribution has also helped: Coinbase-powered products integrated on Base, Coinbase's layer-2 network, have fed inflows into Morpho.
Utilization is another signal. It measures how much of the deposited capital is actually being borrowed. Morpho Blue has often posted utilization rates between 89% and 93%, particularly on Ethereum and Base.
Aave's position and the pressure on it
Aave V3 still leads in absolute stablecoin deposits on every measure cited here. But its relative share is under pressure, particularly in stablecoin lending. When a competitor grows faster in a flat market, the leader's slice shrinks even if its own deposits hold steady.
What this means for lenders, borrowers and the market
With two protocols controlling 67.7% of tracked stablecoin deposits, both have strong incentives to keep innovating rather than coast. Concentration cuts the other way too: when two venues hold the majority of deposits, a problem at either one carries outsized consequences for the broader lending market.
The gap between the $7.5 billion supply figure and the $5.32 billion TVL figure for Morpho shows how much the scoreboard depends on methodology. Anyone tracking whether Morpho actually flips Aave should check which dataset is making the call. For now, Aave V3 holds the lead in stablecoin supply. Morpho Blue is close enough that the next few weeks of inflows could decide whether the ranking changes, and the trend lines on Base and Ethereum utilization are likely to offer the earliest clues.
