Morpho DeFi Protocol Surpasses $2B in RWA Deposits as Lending Accelerates

Morpho, a DeFi lending protocol, has reached a $2.14 billion milestone in real-world asset (RWA) deposits. Institutions are using tokenized assets such as BlackRock's BUIDL and Ondo Finance's USDY as collateral to secure loans totaling $894 million, representing a 42% utilization rate.

The borrowed capital is being deployed to amplify yield strategies, such as purchasing additional tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds. According to Morpho Co-Founder and CEO Paul Frambot, this activity marks the second phase of tokenized asset adoption, moving beyond initial tokenization to unlocking productive financing on-chain.

Leading RWA Utility in DeFi

Morpho is significantly outpacing competitors in making RWAs productive. As of Q4 2026, the broader DeFi sector held $4.36 billion in RWA total value locked (TVL) with an average utilization rate of 14%—substantially lower than Morpho's 42%.

In borrowed loan volume, Morpho leads the field, followed by Solana-based Kamino Lend with $433 million, Grove Finance with $395 million, and Aave's V3 with $391 million. This positions Morpho with approximately double the RWA utility of Aave.

Protocol Economics and Market Dynamics

Despite its strong market position, Morpho currently generates no protocol revenue. The platform has switched off fees to remain the cheapest lending alternative and attract users. This means the protocol's growth does not directly translate to token value through fee accrual.

The MORPHO token's value is therefore driven primarily by broader market sentiment rather than protocol economics. The token recovered 12% over three days and defended the $2.0 level, though further gains would require clearing $2.26 resistance.
