Multicoin Capital has deposited approximately 308,884 HYPE tokens, valued at over $19.8 million, into Coinbase Prime over a seven-hour period. The recent transfer follows a broader pattern of large-scale deposits by the firm extending back several weeks.
Since February 2026, Multicoin has accumulated more than $100 million in HYPE, establishing it as one of the firm's largest liquid fund positions. Moving substantial amounts of the asset to an institutional exchange brokerage highlights potential preparation for market optionality.
Previous transfers include a deposit of approximately 395,570 HYPE valued near $23.8 million around July 21-22, followed by a tranche of roughly 86,000 HYPE worth about $4.78 million. Additional deposits occurred in mid-to-late August, ranging between 136,000 and 173,000 HYPE and tallying roughly $10 million per batch.
HYPE trading has recently ranged between $55 and $70. Comparable large deposits in July 2026 correlated with price declines of about 8%. Bitwise executed similar moves that were followed by analogous short-term drawdowns.
Hyperliquid operates as a Layer-1 blockchain designed for decentralized perpetual trading. Its native token, HYPE, is utilized for staking and governance, with 92% of protocol fees directed toward buybacks. The total supply is capped at 1 billion tokens.
In a valuation report published on June 25, 2026, Multicoin projected a base-case price of roughly $319 for HYPE by 2028, based on expectations that Hyperliquid's annual earnings would scale to approximately $8 billion.
While Multicoin remains publicly constructive on HYPE's long-term prospects, the transfer of tens of millions in tokens to an institutional exchange has drawn scrutiny. Large deposits to institutional brokerages frequently precede over-the-counter block trades or gradual market sales, though they can also indicate risk management strategies or liquidity threshold maintenance for investors.
