MultiversX announced that its mainnet resumed block production on September 24 after an approximately five-day disruption caused by an attempted exploit. The network's technical team deployed a recovery upgrade and confirmed that normal network activity could continue, with the official gateway showing new block timestamps consistent with the restart.
Despite the network's recovery, trading restrictions remain in place at major exchange Kraken. The platform continued listing EGLD as cancel-only trading, meaning customers can cancel existing orders but cannot execute new trades. Deposits and withdrawals also remained paused as of September 24, with no posted reopening timeline.
Exploit and Network Halt
MultiversX disclosed on September 19 that an attempted exploit of a virtual-machine atomicity issue had caused invalid state changes, prompting the network to pause block production. The technical team completed recovery checks before resuming operations five days later.
Exchange Reopening Separate from Network Recovery
The network's restart does not automatically restore access to EGLD trading at exchanges. MultiversX's technical team warned that trading, deposits, and withdrawals might remain paused at some exchanges for several more days as those platforms completed their own reopening processes. Exchange access requires separate confirmation from each venue.
Kraken's incident timeline predated the network exploit announcement. The exchange first reported possible EGLD funding-gateway delays on September 16, moving EGLD pairs to cancel-only trading on September 19 before MultiversX announced the exploit. The platform had not posted a reopening time as of the September 24 check.
Users seeking to trade or move EGLD through Kraken should consult the exchange's official incident page for updates on when full trading and funding services will resume.
