Bitcoin’s third-quarter rally ended a prolonged slump, but the market’s next move will depend heavily on Federal Reserve policy and upcoming inflation data, according to a new report from digital asset wealth platform Nexo.
Q3 Recovery
Bitcoin jumped 42.7% in the third quarter, rising from $58,544 to $83,570, breaking three consecutive quarters of negative performance. Altcoins also participated in the upside, with Ethereum gaining 70.9% and Solana appreciating approximately 60%.
Nexo attributes the broad-based recovery primarily to a U.S. Treasury announcement that it would double its purchases of long-dated bonds. The move compressed bond yields and injected vitality back into global risk assets. As selling pressure eased through September, on-chain metrics improved, with the share of bitcoin supply held in profit climbing back to roughly 69%.
Fed Policy and Inflation in Focus
According to Nexo, the upcoming Federal Reserve interest rate decision is a definitive catalyst for digital assets. The direction of interest rates and incoming inflation prints will heavily dictate whether momentum can sustain itself. A favorable rate decision or a policy hold could pave the way for continued market expansion, while unexpected hawkish shifts or persistent inflation could introduce heavy volatility and force consolidation or a pullback.
Mixed ETF Signals
Institutional participation remains a cornerstone of modern market cycles, but fourth-quarter signals are mixed. After robust capital inflows in the previous quarter, exchange-traded fund (ETF) flows turned net negative in October. Nexo says the dip highlights underlying market uncertainty and indicates that institutional investors are temporarily pausing to reassess macroeconomic conditions before committing fresh capital.
Potential Scenarios
Nexo outlines a spectrum of potential paths for the remainder of the year. The primary projection is that bitcoin and major altcoins could resume their upward trajectory if monetary policy remains stable or eases. If macroeconomic uncertainties persist, markets may enter a prolonged sideways range as investors wait for clarity on inflation and central bank actions. Conversely, should incoming data surprise to the upside on inflation or force the Fed into a more restrictive stance, risk assets could face short-term downside corrections.
Nexo’s report portrays an asset class that has shaken off its midyear lethargy only to face a high-stakes macroeconomic test. With on-chain health robust and long-term conviction intact, the crypto economy’s immediate trajectory rests on central bank actions and upcoming liquidity signals.
