Bitcoin continues to trade near the $80,000 level, having moved between roughly $79,000 and $85,000 in recent weeks. Bitcoin.com News queried nine AI chatbots to forecast the cryptocurrency's price on December 31, 2026, examining how each model weighs current market conditions, recent price movements, institutional demand, monetary policy, and relevant risks.
The models surveyed were Claude Opus, Pi AI, Grok, ChatGPT-6.1 Sol High Intelligence, Gemini Flash, Mistral Vibe Think Mode, Deepseek Deepthink Mode, Qwen 3.7 Plus Thinking Mode, and Venice AI. Each was asked to provide a single exact price prediction and explain the strongest reasons behind the forecast.
Price Predictions Cluster in Mid-Range
Eight of the nine models produced forecasts between $82,482 and $89,687. Pi AI predicted $82,482, citing steady institutional ETF activity and a cautiously supportive Fed rate path. Grok forecast $85,000, reflecting current range-bound trading and modest ETF inflows. ChatGPT-6.1 Sol predicted $88,000, pointing to renewed ETF inflows and slower profit-taking. Gemini Flash projected $88,500, balancing institutional inflows against macroeconomic headwinds. Qwen 3.7 Plus predicted $89,687, citing resilient institutional demand and anticipated accommodative monetary policy. Venice AI also forecast $88,000, emphasizing institutional demand from spot ETF flows.
One model, Deepseek Deepthink Mode, diverged significantly with a prediction of $112,000. When asked to explain the reasoning behind this outlier forecast, Deepseek stated it could not verify the specific run or recover its hidden reasoning, describing any explanation as reconstruction rather than memory.
Common Themes in Model Reasoning
Most forecasts highlighted the role of institutional demand through spot bitcoin ETFs as a supporting factor. Several models referenced the Federal Reserve's decision to hold rates steady at 3.75 to 4.00 percent, with some noting that elevated inflation and the possibility of rate increases complicate the outlook for a sustained recovery.
Models also acknowledged recent price movements and volatility. Bitcoin traded around $84,000 a month prior to the survey and approached $85,000 before retreating to the $79,000 level over a weekend, with a subsequent rebound to nearly $82,000 accompanying fresh ETF inflows.
Absence of Bearish Forecasts
All nine models produced bullish or neutral outlooks with no bearish base cases. The uniform optimism among the models may reflect similar inputs producing similar conclusions rather than independent discovery of the same opportunity, according to the article's editorial assessment. The Deepseek outlier raises questions about how divergent outputs can emerge from identical inputs.
