Onchain gambling platforms processed $14 billion in volume during Q1 2026, marking continued expansion in the crypto casino sector even as cryptocurrency prices declined and trading activity slowed across broader markets.
The sector has demonstrated substantial growth over the past five years. Transaction volume reached $15 billion in Q4 2025 and stood at $14 billion in Q1 2026, compared to $2.6 billion in Q1 2021, according to data tracked by blockchain analysis firm TRM Labs.
How Crypto Casinos Operate
Crypto casinos function as online gambling platforms that accept cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals. Players transfer funds directly from their digital wallets to the casino and back again upon withdrawal, bypassing traditional banking intermediaries. Games offered include slots, blackjack, roulette, and live dealer options.
The deposit process requires a cryptocurrency wallet or exchange account, selection of a casino and the specific blockchain network, and transfer of funds to a casino-provided deposit address. Network selection matters significantly, as sending assets on different networks can result in lost funds. Withdrawal processes operate in reverse.
Stablecoins Dominate Volume
Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC represent the majority of gambling volume on crypto platforms. TRM Labs data indicates that USDT comprises approximately 94 percent of gambling volume on the TRON blockchain. These assets allow players to maintain stable dollar-denominated balances while leveraging cryptocurrency transaction benefits.
Some players maintain separate holdings of stablecoins for regular play and other cryptocurrencies for longer-term market exposure.
Growth Drivers and Market Entry
Key advantages cited for crypto casinos include faster transaction settlement compared to traditional bank transfers, elimination of card payment processing obstacles, and borderless fund transfers with reduced fees. In April 2026, payment processor Paysafe launched a cryptocurrency payment option for U.S. online gambling operators in partnership with MoonPay, enabling deposits using stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies where permitted.
Concentration and Risk Considerations
Despite growth in the sector, transaction volume remains concentrated among a small portion of users. TRM Labs data shows that approximately 6.3 percent of individual gambling wallets have generated 91.8 percent of onchain gambling volume since 2022.
Cryptocurrency-based transactions, while verified by blockchain networks, do not guarantee operator trustworthiness or dispute resolution. The immutable nature of blockchain transactions means network verification alone cannot compel casino payouts or resolve player disputes.
