OpenSea has opened its mobile app to all iOS and Android users, taking the product out of beta on October 20, 2026. The launch includes a referral program that pays 25% of the fees generated by a newly introduced trader, while the new user receives a permanent 10% discount on trading fees.
What the app offers
The app is built around consolidation. It pulls holdings from multiple wallets into a single portfolio view and supports more than 25 blockchains. Trading extends beyond NFTs: users can trade tokens, perpetual futures, and NFTs across chains from the same interface.
Onboarding is designed to reduce friction. New users can sign up with an email address and pay with Apple Pay. The app automatically creates a self-custodial wallet, and no seed phrase is required.
A social feed drawing on other platforms
The app's social feed aggregates trades taking place across other crypto apps rather than showing only activity from OpenSea's own users. The research findings name Pump.fun, FOMO, and Farcaster among the platforms feeding into it.
Beta figures and fee structure
OpenSea said the beta drew more than 56,000 sign-ups, of which 76% were active, according to the company.
Token trades carry a 0.5% fee, and collectible purchases carry a 1% fee, with network fees on top in both cases. On a token trade, a quarter of the 0.5% fee equals 0.125% of the trade's value flowing back to the referrer, before accounting for the referred user's discount.
Why the referral design matters
The referral program is the clearest signal of OpenSea's growth strategy. Paying an ongoing share of fees, rather than a one-time bonus, rewards referrers for bringing in people who keep trading. The permanent discount for new users gives referred users a lasting reason to stay on the platform, even though a 10% cut is not dramatic per trade.
What this means
The launch reflects a broader shift in how OpenSea positions itself. Supporting tokens and perpetual futures alongside NFTs puts the app in more direct competition with trading platforms well beyond the collectibles niche.
For newcomers, email signup, Apple Pay support, and a seed-phrase-free wallet lower the barrier considerably. That ease cuts both ways: easier access to leveraged products like perpetual futures also means easier access to leveraged losses.
By surfacing activity from Pump.fun, FOMO, Farcaster, and others, OpenSea is positioning itself as an aggregator of on-chain attention rather than just a destination for trades.
