Optimism Faces Pressures From Declining On-Chain Activity
Optimism (OP) declined by 12% amid a broader capital outflow across the cryptocurrency market, which saw $91.76 billion leave the sector. Fundamental factors contributing to the recent loss include a declining streak in on-chain activity and trading volume over recent days.
Data from DeFiLlama indicates an ongoing capital exit, with approximately $14.33 million leaving the network's total value locked (TVL). The TVL has been on a downward trend since October 5. A decline in TVL over a 36-hour period typically signals that investors may anticipate a short-term decline in the asset. This drop is primarily driven by falling volume activity across decentralized exchanges (DEXes) on the OP mainnet, which peaked at about $495 million on September 3 before falling to a normalized level of roughly $21 million. This reduction in activity points to lower usage across the chain and reduced utility for the native OP token.
Market Indicators and Rebound Potential
Chart analysis shows that OP has dropped into a demand zone that previously supported the asset's most recent upswing. If this demand level holds, the price could potentially rally back to its previous local high of $0.15.
Market participants are closely monitoring the Accumulation/Distribution (A/D) indicator, a volume-weighted metric tracking whether investors are buying or selling. At the time of writing, the A/D indicator fell to approximately -12.8 million in weighted volume. If this downward trend continues, the price risks invalidating the demand zone and moving lower.
Meanwhile, market sentiment according to CoinMarketCap remains neutral, reflecting investor indecision regarding whether current bearish conditions will persist or if a bullish recovery will occur.
