OP, the native token of Optimism, climbed nearly 20% in the last 24 hours after Uniswap announced that Unichain will transition its production operations to OP Enterprise. The rally occurred as Bitcoin and several major altcoins faced selling pressure.
According to CoinGecko, OP recorded a 19.4% daily gain on October 14, reaching $0.1621. At the time of writing, the token had given up some gains and was trading around $0.156, representing a 14% increase over 24 hours and 28% over seven days. Trading volume surged to approximately $226 million in 24-hour volume, a 128% increase from the previous day.
Despite recent gains, OP remains down roughly 68% from its price one year ago and 97% below its all-time high. The token has gained 64% over 30 days, with its last comparable price level in mid-May when it touched $0.166.
Unichain Transition Details
Uniswap announced on October 9 that Unichain's testnet migration was scheduled for October 13, with mainnet migration set for October 29. Under the arrangement, Optimism will operate the production infrastructure, including sequencers, remote procedure call services, monitoring, and incident response across mainnet and testnet.
The transition maintains Unichain's chain ID, contracts, balances, and existing Uniswap v2, v3, and v4 deployments unchanged. Unichain users are not expected to experience changes to their existing experience.
The handover prepares Unichain for native interoperability across the OP Stack. Once that functionality launches, users will be able to transfer assets, starting with ETH, between Unichain and other OP Stack networks without relying on a bridge.
Broader Market Context
OP's gains stood in contrast to wider market weakness. Several major altcoins lost ground, with NEAR, Zcash, Cardano, and Hyperliquid declining. Ethereum briefly dipped to $2,400 before recovering above $2,500. Bitcoin fell as low as $80,850 before rebounding toward $84,000, while daily liquidations across crypto markets exceeded $800 million.
