A broad deleveraging swept through cryptocurrency derivatives markets over the past 24 hours, with 118,155 market participants facing liquidation, according to a report from WhaleInsider. The liquidations hit leveraged positions across major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ether.
The total value of liquidated positions is estimated at between $815 million and $821 million, and long positions made up the majority of the total.
Prices retreat
Bitcoin's price fell below $80,000 during the move, while Ether traded near $2,350. The declines point to a broader market correction that may weigh on investor sentiment.
Prediction market adjusts
The liquidation event coincided with a recalibration of expectations in some forward-looking markets. The Hyperliquid price predictions market, which tracks the likelihood of Hyperliquid reaching $100 by the end of 2026, showed a 33% YES probability, down from a peak of 40% a week earlier.
Market pricing in that contract is consistent with reduced confidence in leveraged positions, particularly longs in the largest cryptocurrencies, according to the report.
What to watch
The effect of the liquidation event on future market moves remains uncertain. Areas to monitor include:
- Changes in the Hyperliquid prediction market's YES probability as sentiment shifts.
- Possible announcements from major exchanges or institutional actors that could influence market dynamics.
- Further price moves in Bitcoin and Ether, which could offer insight into the broader market reaction.
