Fission, a tokenization infrastructure company, announced on October 15 that it raised $10 million in a funding round led by Pantera Capital, with participation from Circle Ventures and other investors.
The company focuses on solving a fundamental problem in tokenized finance: enabling investors to access their capital from tokenized alternative investments, including private funds that traditionally have limited redemption options and few buyers.
The Liquidity Challenge
While blockchain-based tokenization has streamlined recordkeeping and asset transfers, it does not automatically create liquid markets. Private credit and private equity funds often maintain transfer restrictions, limited redemption windows, and a small pool of potential buyers.
Fission is developing infrastructure to provide secondary-market liquidity for qualifying interests in these assets. The company emphasizes that while some transactions can be completed rapidly when liquidity is available, this should not be confused with a guaranteed right to instantly sell every asset at full value.
Market Evolution
Fission's approach reflects a shift in investor priorities within the tokenization industry. Market participants increasingly want to understand how tokenized assets can be financed, transferred, and redeemed—not merely how they are initially issued.
The company plans to use the funding to expand its infrastructure and support additional asset managers. Pantera's investment in the firm suggests that solving practical market problems may be as commercially significant as developing new blockchain-based securities.
