Pi Network has completed its Protocol 27 upgrade, according to an announcement from the project's Core Team. The upgrade was originally targeted for September 15 but faced delays before confirmation was finally issued.
Node operators were urged to update their software to the new version. The Core Team has already set its sights on the next protocol iteration, Protocol 28, with a deadline of October 13 for node operators to implement updates. The Mainnet protocol upgrade for Protocol 28 is scheduled for October 16.
What's Included in Protocol 28
Protocol 28 focuses on technical improvements to network and application operations. Key changes include addressing delays in transaction data handling and enabling developers to upgrade groups of smart contracts simultaneously rather than individually. The protocol will also introduce a new method for modifying stored data as applications evolve.
Pi Testnet has already upgraded to Protocol 28 following the successful completion of Protocol 27 on Pi Mainnet.
Token Performance
Pi's native token has experienced volatility in recent trading. The token dropped below $0.083 in the past week before recovering to a multi-week high of $0.094, followed by a pullback to $0.085. Recent market conditions for altcoins have supported a recovery, with PI trading above $0.09 after a 5.5% increase over 24 hours. The token's market cap has reclaimed the $1 billion level, placing it as the 65th-largest cryptocurrency by that metric.
