Meme coins named after rapper Pitbull's upcoming album, Pitcoin, rallied roughly 100%, with the most active token recording $583,231 in daily volume. The surge follows a promotion of the project by the artist on X, though none of the tokens trading under the Pitcoin name carry any endorsement from Pitbull or his label.
Album Announcement Triggers Token Creation
Billboard first reported the album title on August 12, and Pitbull, whose legal name is Armando Christian Pérez, is scheduled to release Pitcoin in early October. Trading data indicates that the leading PITCOIN token's Solana pool went live on August 12, coinciding with the publication of the album title.
The token trades on PumpSwap and holds $54,387 in liquidity, with a daily volume running about 14 times higher than the next busiest Pitcoin pool. Meanwhile, a newer version in a Uniswap V4 pool on Robinhood's chain rose 207% in under seven hours, carrying a $35,475 valuation.
Most copycat tokens have remained small. Dozens of assets currently trade under the Pitcoin name, with the majority holding market capitalizations below $3,000. Pitbull's post promoting the album drew 115,500 views and directed fans to a pre-save page.
A Familiar Pattern in Meme Coins
The rise of copycat meme coins follows a recurring trend in the cryptocurrency market tied to viral celebrity announcements:
- In February 2025, developers launched fresh Dogefather coins within hours of Elon Musk posting a Dogefather image, causing two tokens to jump 122% and 137%.
- When Musk changed his X display name to Gorklon Rust in May 2025, new Gork tokens spiked by as much as 7,000%.
- Ye warned followers in February 2025 that every coin using his brand was fake before launching the official YZY coin in August of the following year.
