Polygon Adds Solana Support to Open Money Stack Payments Platform

Polygon Labs has added Solana to its Open Money Stack, a payments platform that connects traditional bank accounts with cryptocurrency transfers and payouts. The integration, announced on October 29, 2026, enables businesses to pull funds from banks, move them across blockchain networks, and pay recipients on Solana through a single connection.

How the Integration Works

The Open Money Stack provides fiat on-ramps and off-ramps, custodial wallets, compliance checks, and cross-chain routing. Businesses can now connect directly to Solana for stablecoin transactions using a single API rather than building separate integrations for each blockchain network.

The platform accepts inflows through ACH transfers, cards, and cash, then converts those funds into stablecoins for payouts. A company can accept a dollar from a customer's bank account and deliver it as a stablecoin on Solana without requiring the customer to set up a wallet.

Developers no longer need to run their own bridges or pre-fund liquidity on Solana. Pre-funding involves parking capital on a chain in advance to enable quick settlement, which ties up cash that finance teams prefer to use elsewhere.

Technical Foundation

The Solana integration extends Polygon's Trails cross-chain routing tool, which has supported moving SOL, wrapped SOL, USDC, USDT, and PYUSD between Solana and more than 20 EVM-compatible chains since August 3, 2026. EVM chains are networks compatible with Ethereum's software standard.

Settlement on the Polygon chain offers sub-2-second finality with average fees of approximately $0.002.

Regulatory and Licensing

Polygon's acquisition of Coinme brought money transmitter licenses across 48 US states, providing the regulatory groundwork for legally moving money on behalf of customers.

Current Users and Use Cases

The Open Money Stack has early adopters including Tazapay, Mesh, Toku, and Kira, with use cases focused on cross-border payments and payroll. Global payroll, cross-border transfers, and merchant payouts represent the primary use cases Polygon expects the Solana expansion to support.

Strategic Implications

The integration positions Polygon as a payments layer spanning multiple blockchains rather than a network competing primarily for users. When businesses using Polygon's stack route transactions to Solana, Polygon still participates in the infrastructure.

For Solana, the integration adds a distribution channel to businesses that may not have built directly on the network. Companies already using the Open Money Stack can reach Solana's stablecoin ecosystem through a configuration change rather than a new engineering project.

USDC, USDT, and PYUSD are all supported through Trails, allowing businesses to choose stablecoins suited to their counterparties without rebuilding their technical stack each time.

Outstanding Questions

Polygon has not disclosed transaction volumes or pricing specific to the Solana integration, making it difficult to assess how much activity will flow through the platform. Cross-chain systems also carry execution risk, as bridges and routing layers have historically been targeted pieces of crypto infrastructure.
