Polymarket is evaluating whether to pursue a traditional equity route, potentially through an initial public offering, or launch a native token, according to Bloomberg. The prediction market platform must decide which type of asset its users and backers will eventually hold.
As of mid-October 2026, Polymarket has announced no plans for an airdrop or token generation event. However, CEO Shayne Coplan discussed exploring an "onchain asset with real programmable utility" at TOKEN2049 in Singapore on October 7, without providing specifics or a timeline.
Valuation Growth and Revenue
Polymarket's valuation has grown substantially. A strategic investment from Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, valued the company at approximately $9 billion in 2025. Later funding rounds reportedly pushed the valuation to around $15 billion in April 2026, with negotiations in August 2026 hinting at valuations exceeding $20 billion.
The platform's revenue supports this trajectory. Polymarket's annualized revenue run rate is reported to exceed $1 billion, with one weekend snapshot showing the platform pulled in approximately $9.9 million compared with $2.64 million for Hyperliquid.
Regulatory Positioning
Polymarket has invested in building a regulated US footprint. The company acquired QCEX to support operations under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission oversight and launched Polymarket US. Leadership hires from traditional finance have also fueled speculation about an IPO path.
Path Forward
No token or airdrop has been formally announced. Coplan's comments suggest the company is exploring onchain assets, while the official position remains that nothing concrete has been decided. The equity route aligns with moves the company has made, including regulatory acquisitions and Wall Street hires, though a scenario combining both equity and onchain assets remains possible.
