A $70 million feature film titled Bitcoin, directed by Doug Liman and starring Gal Gadot, Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, and Isla Fisher, has entered post-production, the fifth stage of the seven-step filmmaking process. During post-production, raw footage is assembled and polished into a finished film before distribution and release.
The film is written by Nick Schenk and produced by Ryan Kavanaugh and Lawrence Grey. Director Liman's previous credits include The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. According to industry observers, the filmmakers used artificial intelligence to create the film's environments.
Community Concerns Over Wright Portrayal
Content creator Terence Michael warned that the film's depiction of Craig Wright as Satoshi Nakamoto will likely divide the Bitcoin community and confuse mainstream audiences. Michael noted that the narrative premise suggests Wright's claims are valid, potentially positioning him as the true bitcoin creator.
"The mainstream public will watch this and accept it as gospel truth, leaving the Bitcoin community forced to constantly play defense against a Hollywood-backed revision of history," Michael stated.
Background and Controversy
The film's premise appears designed to revive past claims that Wright is bitcoin's creator. A U.K. court previously rejected Wright's claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto. Wright's website later added a notice clarifying that he was not Satoshi Nakamoto.
Calvin Ayre, a known supporter of Wright, is involved with the film's production. According to Michael, despite the large budget and A-list cast, the project functions as an independent production by Ayre focused on Wright. The film reportedly lacks a major domestic distributor as of its entry into post-production, with only some international sales arranged.
The announcement sparked debate within the cryptocurrency community, with critics expressing concern over Hollywood amplifying long-disputed claims, while others suggested funding a competing film honoring Satoshi Nakamoto's actual legacy.
