Postbank to Offer Crypto, Stocks, and Gold Trading in Mobile App by Early 2027

Postbank, formally known as Eurobank Bulgaria AD, plans to expand its mobile banking app beyond basic account management to include investment services. The Bulgarian lender has announced plans to let customers buy cryptocurrencies, stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), commodities, and metals directly through the app, with a rollout targeted for early 2027.

The planned service will emphasize fractional investing, allowing customers to purchase partial shares or assets rather than full positions. Postbank will not develop the investing infrastructure itself, instead partnering with an international investment platform whose identity has not yet been disclosed.

Several operational details remain unconfirmed, including which specific assets will be available, the fee structure, and how customer holdings will be stored in custody. Postbank ranked as Bulgaria's fourth-largest bank by assets as of June 30, 2026.

Competitive Timeline in Bulgarian Banking

Postbank is not alone in pursuing this strategy. First Investment Bank, known as Fibank, announced a similar plan one week earlier, also targeting early 2027 for its crypto investment service. Unlike Postbank, Fibank publicly named its partner: Bitpanda, an Austrian investment platform. Fibank's offering focuses specifically on crypto assets rather than a broader range of investment products.

Regulatory Environment Driving Change

Bulgarian banks are integrating investment services into their platforms as regulatory conditions across the European Union continue to shift. Partnering with established investment platforms allows banks to access ready-made trading and custody infrastructure while providing platforms with direct access to large pools of verified customers.

Key Uncertainties Before Launch

Multiple factors will influence the success and scope of the offering upon launch. The identity of Postbank's investment partner will indicate the depth and breadth of crypto assets available. Fee structures will be particularly important for small-sum investors, whose modest positions can be significantly affected by trading costs. The custody arrangement will determine how customer assets are protected. Additionally, the early 2027 target remains subject to compliance requirements that commonly delay banking product launches.
